January 18: Go A Little Deeper and See What Happens

Affirmation: I accept my fears and doubts and move forward anyway.

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27)
Worry will discourage us from taking even the smallest step. In many cases, it’s not that God’s unable to perform miracles rather it’s us who refuse to take that one small step needed to be the starting point for God’s miracle.

Ponder and Personalize and Practice:

Read the verses or recite them several times. Replace anxiety with prayer and thanksgiving, let God know what you need. Think about how that can impact your anxiety. Try it today…Rejoice, let go of anxiety, pray and give thanks, tell God what you need. Maybe do some journaling about your experience today.

”Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“

Go A Little Deeper and See What Happens

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Luke 5:4.

There is a story in the gospel of Luke about Jesus, walking along the shore of the sea of Galilee. He spots two boats. He climbs into one and pushes out into the water to teach from there. What is interesting is what He does next. He asks the fisherman named Simon, who is washing up his nets nearby, to come fishing with Him. Luke went on to say that Jesus told him and his crew to push out a little deeper.

The guys doing the fishing, no doubt thought this idea was a bad one. After all, they had been fishing all night and had zero in the fish count. But the scripture say the fishermen pushed out deeper anyway. Guess what happened next? They caught so many fish that other boats had to come help them haul in the catch and started sinking because of the weight.

This all happened because Simon, who later became known as Peter, was willing to go a little deeper than he had before. What do you suppose would happen in your life if you pushed out a little deeper in a couple of areas? How might you push out a little deeper in your faith? What about pushing out a little deeper with your career? What might happen if you pushed out a little deeper with your friends or family or your hopes?

It could be that you have been pushing up against a mountain of resistance for a long time. Forget all night; it has felt like years. Perhaps it feels like your relationship or career or love net is empty. You aren’t fishless, but life feels hopeless. It certainly can feel counterintuitive to trust that there is more during these times, but trust Jesus when He invites you to lean into Him and push out a little deeper.

If you knew it was Jesus calling you deeper, would you go? If you really believed He would be with you when you got there, you might just make that move.

Today make that move and follow Jesus.
