January 15: Don’t Let The Bad Stuff Stick
Affirmation: It’s okay not to be okay. Allow yourself to feel what you feel.
This is a good thing to journal about and find someone you trust to talk to about what you are feeling.
~~~~~~~
Ponder: Again read the verses over several times to cement them in your memory. Copy them and keep them with you.
How is rejoicing connected to making your gentleness evident? Does rejoicing help to recognize that the Lord is near? Think on this today.
”Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“
Chasing Whimsy by Bob Goff
Don’t Let The Bad Stuff Stick
“ then they brought him a demon possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him… All the people were astonished and said, “could this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “it is only by Beezelbub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons. “
Matthew 12:22–24.
There was a man who was blind and mute, and the people around him said he was a demon possessed. When Jesus drove the spirit out of the man and healed him, the people were amazed. If we had been there, I bet we would’ve been amazed (and perhaps a little freaked out too). But someone came up to Jesus after He had performed the miracle and said, “Oh, I know what’s going on. You’re doing this by the power of the devil.”
There will always be skeptics around us, people who won’t be impressed with what God is doing or who misunderstand you and dwell on the negative. Don’t become distracted by this. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. That’s what Taylor, an illusionist who is also one of my closest friends, did. We were on a bus tour from a city to city with our friends when someone at one of our shows said they figured out how he did his sleight-of-hand. Even though they had it all wrong, Taylor didn’t take the bait; he just encouraged the angry guy to keep pursuing wonder and brought peace to the negativity.
Some people have their heads in the game and are constantly amazed by what God is doing in the world, while others keep saying, “But what about this? And what about that? “ Don’t let this throw you off. I’m not saying that you need to avoid skeptical, negative people completely, but do pay attention to the fruit that negativity is bearing in their lives. If what you were seeing is not what you want for your own life, be careful of the time you give them. Love them, bless them, but consider giving them more distance and a little less airtime in your life.
Spend time with a positive person today.
