February 17: Asking For Help Takes Courage

Affirmation: I enjoy being creative.

Each of us is created in God’s image. God is creative, therefore you are creative. Look around you at each individual person, then look at the beautiful vegetation and incredible animals in our world. God is creative beyond my comprehension. You, too, are creative.❤️
Make it a point to do something creative today or in the next few days…cook, bake, build, paint, draw, write, sing, dance…

Ponder: Our meditation and pondering practice is to begin each week by reading the verse over at least 5 times to help with memorizing. Let’s start there again today.

Zephaniah 3:17

“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Asking For Help Takes Courage

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28ESV.

The thing about having kids is that it is an 18 year experiment of life in constant motion. This was especially apparent to me one day when I was once again in a hurry and attempting to get our young children into their seats in the minivan. Most days it felt like I was trying to get three spring loaded snakes into a can- once I got them inside the can, I needed to put the lid on fast, so I became adept at buckling the last one in, while in the same movement, sliding the mini van door closed as I started making my way back around the car to my seat. This day was no different, as I slid the door closed and started my sprint to the driver seat, I suddenly realized I could go no further. I couldn’t quite figure out why. My eyes followed my shirt out toward my arms, and I noticed four of my fingers had just been closed inside the door.

All of this happened in an instant, and the sensory pain signals had not yet made it from my squished fingers to my brain. But all of that would soon change. My mind raced over how I could fix the dilemma, I knocked on the window to get the kids attention, and tried to wave and pointed to the door handle, which was out of my reach. The kids waved back at me and smiled. It was a long couple of minutes before Sweet Maria pulled into the driveway, saw my hand hanging from the door and set me free. I don’t hold a grudge, but I don’t miss the minivan.

Are you feeling stuck and unable to get free, it’s probably not your fingers shut in the door, maybe it’s in your relationships or your faith in your ability to dream big dreams. Perhaps you have so many things going on that you can’t seem to come up for air, much less call out for help, and even if you did, it feels like no one would hear you, or they would just wave back at you like my kids did. The fix isn’t to grow more arms to juggle more activities or extra legs to run even faster. Why not ask a friend or two for some help?

Make a call, send a text, tell a friend about the pinch points in your life. God opens doors all the time.
